Shooting Practice: Pick a Location Before Adding Attempts
Choose a shooting location and catch pattern before increasing attempts, so practice answers a clear basketball question beyond the shot count.
Quick summary
- Name the shot situation you want to practice.
- Use a range where the intended action stays manageable.
- Keep location and setup consistent long enough to review them.

More attempts do not explain what you practiced
A player can spend an hour shooting from wherever the rebound lands and finish knowing only that many shots were taken. That can be enjoyable, but it gives limited information about a particular game situation. Choosing a location and a way of receiving the ball turns the session into a clearer task: a short corner catch, a wing catch-and-shoot, or another shot appropriate to your current practice.
FIBA’s coaching workbook advises developing shooting from a manageable range before moving farther away. The useful planning question is therefore where you can practice the intended action with control, not which distant line looks most impressive.
Define the location and the start of the shot
Choose one or a few identifiable court positions relevant to your game or your coach’s plan. Use existing markings or permitted flat markers that do not create a hazard. Specify whether the ball arrives from a partner, a self-toss, or a dribble. Those starts are different tasks and should not be mixed unknowingly in the same record.
Select a manageable range and ask a coach for help if reaching the basket requires a movement you cannot repeat comfortably. Keep the initial task clear before adding speed, distance, or a defender. If you have a partner, agree on the pass location and who rebounds so every attempt begins in a comparable way.
Use a limited block appropriate to your session, record makes and attempts, and note one observation about the setup. If the pass repeatedly pulls you away from the chosen spot, correct the passing arrangement before blaming the shot. Progress one element deliberately when it fits the practice plan. A defined location does not mean standing still forever; it gives you a reference from which later movement can be added meaningfully.
A wing catch instead of random rebounds
Imagine practicing a wing catch-and-shoot action with a partner. You identify a manageable spot, ask for a pass you can receive in the intended position, and return to the same starting arrangement after each attempt. When several passes arrive behind you, you pause and adjust the passer’s position rather than counting them as identical shots. The example shows why location and ball delivery belong together. You can now describe what the practice involved before deciding whether to add more attempts or another location.
Let practice end with a simple care routine
Once the ball and court equipment are stored, optional seated leg care can fit a short post-practice review. KIOKOP PRO uses six air chambers to cover the legs with air compression. Fit the boots, connect the hoses, select settings, and start the session through the separate controller. The system runs without repeated hand-held tool movement, leaving full-leg care in one settled setup. Note which shooting location you practiced, then close the record and remain awake and stationary while using the boots.
Frequently asked questions
Should I always start shooting from the three-point line?
Choose a range and action suited to your current skills and the practice goal. A nearer location can make the intended movement easier to repeat and observe. Add distance deliberately with appropriate coaching rather than using the longest line as the default.
